Ever since first noticed the
brilliant make-up job, done on Ron Perlman, to turn him into
the Beast Vincent in the USA TV Series Beauty and the Beast,
I have longed to meet the lady responsible for the exquisite
job she did daily on Ron. So when I learned she was to be a
guest at the Virginia B&B convention USA in March 1998,
I was thrilled, because at last I'd get to meet her, and she
graciously gave me this interview ...
"Good morning Margaret, welcome
to your first Beauty and the Beast convention."
"Hi! How ya doing, yes it is quite a new experience for
me."
"I'm very thrilled to have this
chance to talk to you."
"My pleasure, truly."
"What time did you have to
arrive at the studio to make Ron up?"
"We got in around 3.30 am and it usually took around 4 hours
from start to finish. The rest of the cast were usually
arriving, then."
"Did you make up his hands as
well?"
"No, my husband always did Ron's hands."
"How long have you been in this
make up business then?"
"Around 15 to 20 years."
"Is it true each hair was put on
Ron's face separately to make it look authentic?"
"Yes it is, it was a challenge to do it and build up this
great face, but it was very hard work."
"What did Ron do while you
brought his Vincent features to life?"
"Sometimes he learned his script, sometimes we talked, told
jokes, and we watched videos sometimes, to keep Ron
awake."
"Did you ever meet Opal, Ron's
wife?"
"Yes, but we rarely met outside work."
"Would you ever consider
guesting a British Convention?"
"Yes, I'd love that."
"Everyone knows how much the
fans of this series want TV movies, which the powers that be
say - 'one day'. Tell me, would you like to work on the
B&B movies?"
"I'd love to, really I would."
"If you could have any say with
a storyline, how would you like this to evolve?"
"I'd like to have Vincent's son, a teenager, and Catherine
re-appearing to help him through his tough time as he
approached manhood with his father, Vincent."
"Thank you for this interview
Margaret, and agreeing to be an honourary member of Helper's
Network UK."
"My pleasure , Gwen."
