My First
encounters.
First of all I'd like to
point out that I'm one of the shy ones and secondly, before
I ever met Jamie/Myhr I had already written a poem about
Myhr, so when it came time to contemplate an actual meeting
I have to admit to a large dose of apprehension. Would Myhr
in particular want to make fun loving retribution for that
poem?
I knew from Marina that
Jamie had liked my poem, and I believed her, but with
visions of possible Myhr antics the apprehension continued
to bubble softly.
My first actual meeting
then with Jamie, after all that excitement/apprehension was
anticlimactic and oh so normal. It was late at night and
Jamie had been going from group to group steadily greeting
old friends. When he finally sneaked up to our group (I say
sneaked because I'd been keeping a wary eye on him earlier
in the evening, but hadn't seen him coming) I was listening
to a very animated companion and when Marina caught my
attention to introduce us I had to call a halt to the
conversation in mid flow. Marina introduced me to Jamie and
Jamie intorduced himself to me and I remember dumbly saying
I knew as I smiled and shook hands across a coffee table.
Duh, was my brain frozen, and then aware of my eagerly
awaiting companion I turned back to the suspended
conversation as someone else spoke to Jamie.
Later I realised how rude
I must have seemed and my only excuse was the long tiring
trip and the lateness of the hour, neither of which I'm used
to. As you can see Jamie took it in his stride. The
following morning with my brain a little more in gear I
deliberately went over to Jamie behind his stall to give him
a copy of my poem and he was so polite and kind, considering
the rather abrupt way I'd treated him the night before. He
thanked me for my poem and even put it out for others to
read for a while and I had a quick glance at his work before
we were all called to order for the opening
speach.
So - nothing to fear from
Jamie, and that just left Myhr. Myhr showed up the following
morning. Oh oh, the wild one, I though. Jamie had been fine
but would Myhr the renowned fun loving soul be the same? He
was.
He appeared out of the
lifts not far from where I was standing waiting, as all the
others were, for a trip out, but even though I was in his
line of sight he never singled me out for that imagined
retribution. Within a minute of his appearance though a
friend had asked him to stand with me for my first ever
picture and at last I received my first purr in the ear, I
was intitiated, and Jamie/Myhr had been a purrfect gentleman
throughout. So - if you ever hear stories of Myhr's antics
beforehand and especially if you write something before you
meet him, please do believe those who know him, he doesn't
bite. Myhr is fun loving but not OTT and Jamie is
interesting to listen to when he talks about his art and his
work. Someday I may get the chance to meet them again and
know them better. I wouldn't mind.
